The CB rig will need connection to 12v power – there are various ways of doing this Wire direct to the battery Patch into the power to the car radio Connect to the fusebox Plug into the cigarette lighter socket Wire direct to the battery This is the best way of doing the job, but can be the hardest to do in some vehicles, yet easy in Land Rovers with the battery under the passenger seat. In vehicles with the battery in the engine compartment, you may find some blanked off or grommeted holes – sometimes loads of them if the same bulkhead is used for LHD and RHD versions. If the vehicle is newer you may not find any useable ones at all, it’s a matter of poking about to see what you can find. If you decide to drill a hole to reach the battery please make sure you know whats on the other side of the panel you’re drilling and that there’s no chance of anything getting caught by your drill. The hole may have sharp edges, so it’s important to use a grommet or at the very least large amounts of insulating tape to shield the wire from being cut. Make sure that it’s going to stay where you put it, as large amounts of tape on one bit of the wire is not good if it just moves as you’re refitting your carpet, for example so the unprotected wire is in the hole i’ve been there! You should fit a fuse as close to the battery as you can – one of our blade fuse holders and fuse does nicely, just put a ring terminal on the end of the short wires, and use a connector block to join the other wire to the wire for your CB.

James I just installed my new CB radio. I’ve got it working. I can hear calls every now and then. I haven’t tried to make calls yet.
For maximum range, which also enhances safety, our CB antennas can either mount to the Jeep’s hood, or on the back bumper or spare tire. Most include wiring to splice into the CB hook up, while some kits are all inclusive with the CB, mount, and antenna.
Hooking up a aftermarket radio in a 97 Chevy truck? The 97 K series trucks, tahoes, and suburbans have a din and a half radio size. This size is known as an oversize radio. Pioneer is one of the only manufacturers to make an aftermarket radio. This Supertuner III can be found on most websites and its design is about 10 year…s old. Now this CD player is still a mighty fine option for an upgrade if you are looking for a perfect fit with an ease of installation.
You will need your radio of choice, wiring harness adapter, antenna adapter, and a install kit. HAve all your parts!! Read the instructions and pay attention to radio harness diagrams!! Be careful removing the dash trim ring.
5 Best CB Radios for Truck Drivers
In general, there are two important considerations to keep in mind. First of all, antenna height is the most important factor! A poor antenna at a high location will almost always outperform a good antenna at a low location.
The BERNINA 3 series puts creativity at your fingertips. Direct-selection buttons provide quick access and simple operation. The high contrast LCD screen helps .
Non-locking[ edit ] Non-locking carabiners or snap-links have a sprung swinging gate that accepts a rope, webbing sling, or other hardware. Rock climbers frequently connect two non-locking carabiners with a short length of nylon web to create a quickdraw. Two gate types are common: The more traditional carabiner design, incorporating a solid metal gate with separate pin and spring mechanisms.
Most modern carabiners feature a ‘key-lock nose shape and gate opening, which is less prone to snagging than traditional notch and pin design. Most locking carabiners are based on the solid gate design. A single piece of bent spring-steel wire forms the gate, with no separate spring or pins needed it is a form of ‘ living hinge ‘. Wire gate carabiners are significantly lighter than solid gates, with roughly the same strength.
Wire gates are less prone to icing up than solid gates, an advantage in Alpine mountaineering and ice climbing. The reduced gate mass makes their wire bales less prone to ‘gate flutter,’ a dangerous condition created when the carabiner suddenly impacts rock or other hard surfaces during a fall, and the gate opens momentarily due to momentum and both lowers the breaking strength of the carabiner when open, and potentially allows the rope to escape.
Simple wiregate designs feature a notch that can snag objects similar to original solid gate designs , but newer designs feature a shroud or guide wires around the ‘hooked’ part of the carabiner nose to prevent snagging. Both solid and wire gate carabiners can be either ‘straight gate’ or ‘bent gate’.
While it lacks the fancier refinements that Cobra offers in other models, it gives you the essential features for a clear signal and good communications. Amazon users who rated it give it the same high marks as the 29 LX. This model is equipped with dials for many different settings, including: The SWR calibration perhaps one of the most beneficial features, as it attributes to maximum performance for the antenna system.
However, the RF gain and Dynamike are also useful as they are both used to help produce clearer and louder communication between drivers.
May 12, · just gotta hook up the power (usually just power and ground), mount the cb, run the coax and mount the antenna(the most difficult part). you need to figure out where you want your antenna mounted. i mounted mine right in the middle of the roof (optimal location) using a triple magnet mount.
In simple terms, your radio would like to radiate all of its power, but can only do so if the other components cooperate. Bad coax and mounts, or inefficient antennas and ground plane can cause system bottlenecks. The easiest way to understand the concept is to think of it in terms of water flow. That is, if you put a one inch faucet on a two inch pipe, your potential output will be restricted by the one inch outlet. So goes antenna systems.
Setting your antennas SWR will reduce the restriction of radiated power. If all radios only transmitted on one channel, it would be a much easier task to design antennas. As it is, on CB alone, there are 40 channels to contend with. Mobile antennas can only be made to resonate at one specific frequency channel. The goal of the antenna manufacturers is to build the antenna to resonate at a frequency in the middle of the available band channel 19 on CB and make it broad- banded enough to keep the off-frequency related SWR at the two extreme ends of the band below 2.
It should be noted that if you communicate on one or two adjacent channels anywhere within the band, you can tune your antenna to achieve optimum performance on those channels.
How to Use a Mobile CB in Your Home
This requires a more robust antenna and electrical system than what might be used for the more common low powered or CB radio systems. The electrical system must be capable of delivering a constant 40 amps minimum of DC current at These radios must be wired with both red positive and blue negative wires direct to the battery with 8ga for up to 10 feet and 6ga.
Attaching the negative lead to vehicle chassis ground will not work.
Jan 15, · A CB hook system is a patented Bernina oscillating hook system that supposedly guarantees perfect stitches and thread tension on any fabric. I cannot tell you exactly how it works. This hook system seems to be on only some Berninas.
September 5, I’ve got a question about the ‘static’ in my cb radio. BUT, when the key is on the ‘acc’ position turned back there is hardly any static. I’ve tried hooking the radio straight to the battery, both positive and ground and started the truck Is the cab ground bad? Should I ground the radio straight to the frame? Chasing a performance problem with a CB radio, can be frustrating to say the least. Has the Radio ever worked to your satisfaction?
Have there been any changes to the radio configuration, antennas, co-ax. To be sure that we are on the same page, when you say static, are you refering to the background noise that you would normally associate with a CB? Can you go to an unused channel back the squelch all the way off turn the volume down, and with all accessories off, turn the switch on and hear an increase in volume? When you start the truck can you hear the alternator in the background noise, or the AC fans.
CB hook up?
CB radios have long been a mainstay for truckers, but they’re also popular with off-roaders, RV owners, and motorcyclists and hobbyists. CBs are useful in keeping groups of individuals organized and in contact during events, such as those enjoyed by “wheelers. Also, some drivers still use CBs to identify speed traps, even though radar detectors have largely taken over that task.
RoadTrucker offers you CB External Speakers from Astatic, Cobra, RoadPro, Wilson. Astatic has the Watt Classic Noise Canceling External CB Speaker with PA & Talk Back (VS7) and Noise Canceling External CB Speaker Only (VS6).
Click below for online hookup instructions: Our HF versions use two special high-Q crystals 7. The filter is generally installed in place of an existing IF coupling capacitor, typically a pF ceramic disk type. Interrupting the IF signal path by inserting any extra device can also attenuate the desired RF signal substantially, sometimes as much as 6 dB per filter element. Therefore a single transistor amplifier stage is included on the PC board to compensate for this signal loss.
The end result is a filter with zero gain and zero loss, but vastly improved selectivity. If received signals appear to be breaking up, the other station may be overdeviating. The graph of Figure 1 shows this difference. Both curves at the insertion point are about 8 KHz wide.

Physical portfolios There’s no rule to say you can’t have different design portfolios for different jobs Physical design portfolios are one-off paper creations, so they can be tailored to the job you are applying for. Other than time constraints, there’s no reason why you can’t create multiple design portfolios tailored to different jobs or different types of company. Include a breadth of work How many examples of work should a design portfolio include?
That’s a tricky question, but you should aim to fill at least 20 pages of a physical folio, and at least 30 examples for an online space. You need to be able to show a healthy breadth of work together with a range of applications, so even if you select several examples from a single project you should make sure that you treat image individually. Include appropriate examples “Think about the goal of your design portfolio,” advises Seattle-based illustrator Jared Nickerson Only include design portfolio examples for a full-time position that are appropriate to the role.
CB, CL, SL, XL , , , and others (Most CB, CL SL and XL models use the same rectifier.) Generally Hondas up to cc have a male plug on the rectifier and cc and larger Honda twins have a female Our 3 and 4 wire rectifiers replace all these OEM type rectifiers.
See the detail drawing on this page. Coat this connection with sealer or cover it with tape to protect it from corrosion. All vertical antennas need to be grounded in some way. A mobile CB antenna uses the car body as the ground. On this CB Antenna, the four radial wires are used as the ground. This is called the ground plane of the antenna.
The braided wire which forms the outside conductor of the coax is soldered to all four radial wires. Remember that the inner conductor and outer braid of the coax must not touch each other, nor can the radials come in contact with the driven element. The radials slope down at about a 45 degree angle in different directions, and are tied to the insulators. Rope or nylon cord is then tied to the insulators and used to hold the radials out.

Over the years each employee has had to learn the hard way “not to drill or self drill screw into anything that you can’t see behind or feel behind to make sure you don’t drill into anything you shouldn’t”. We have had installers drill into air-conditioning coolant, break fluid, batteries, wires, antifreeze, glass, and one installer even drilled the gas tank on a VW and everything else under the hood or behind the dash.
With each new installer this Rule has been broken which usually costs Truckcity a lot of money. Most of the time the answer I get when I ask if they looked or felt behind where they were drilling they said “I didn’t think there was anything there”. Or ,and this is a good one. S; just make sure every time”.
The cable is the only one that works between the SR bluetooth transmitter and the Midland CB radio. Four of these cables have failed when I used the transmitter and CB unit exposed to blowing wind on my motorcycle.
We examined the principal technologies available, how they work, and some of the pros, cons, and implications of each option. If you have a touring model or a bagger from one of the major manufacturers, chances are it has been designed to accept a CB. You can either order it pre-installed on your new bike from the factory in the case of BMW, Harley, Honda and Kawasaki or have it added later as an accessory.
Since the CB unit is usually mounted deep in the bowels of the bike, and often requires the addition of electrical filters, headphone jacks and other such electrical system refinements, installation is usually best left to the pros at your local dealer. The simplest, cheapest and easiest method is to get hold of a couple of hand-held GMRS radios and a motorcycle headset accessory.
In fact, this is the least expensive solution across the board.
